  2. Complete the online certification and training course.
  3. After passing your online training course, you will receive your digital/printable trade certificate in your course account.  
  4. Apply for an entry level apprentice position with a company or business requiring employees.
  5. Complete the required hours necessary by your county or state to become a journeyman while employed (This is after you graduated from our apprentice course program). 

Note: Step#5 may not be required depending on your county or state. 

 

CAREER DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS AN ELECTRICIAN TECHNICIAN?

Electrical technicians help create, maintain and repair the electronic components and equipment used in any equipment or device that involves electricity. They can sometimes work with electricians or electrical engineers, or work on site to keep machinery and specialty equipment running correctly.

 

NATIONAL AVERAGE ELECTRICIAN TECHNICIAN SALARY

YEARLY: $62,950 per year
HOURLY: $32.78 per hour

Electrician Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.
  • Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance.
  • Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate of testing devices.
  • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
  • Follow National Electrical Code state and local building regulations.
  • Circuit breaker corrective maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Good knowledge of various test equipment.

Electrician Apprentice Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Electrician apprentice certification & training from a trade school.
  •  Basic system, power generation, blueprints and maintenance and repair knowledge.

 

Note: Electrical apprentices who completed the DMAC Electrical Certification & Training program must have at least 12,000 hours of supervised work experience before becoming a State Licensed Journeyman.

Once you complete your 12,000 working hours under a licensed Journeyman or Electrical contractor, submit the completed Journeyman Electrician License Application to your local licensing office along with the registration fee, a copy of your driver’s license and proof of working/employment hours. Notarized employment references must be included with your application to verify that you’ve met the work experience requirements.

Schedule your Journeyman Electrician Exam appointment by contacting your county’s contractor licensing office upon receiving confirmation of your application approval. Most state exams are administered in an open book format , consists of 80 questions that must be completed within three hours. Exam topics include items such as general electrical knowledge, wiring methods and materials, equipment and communication systems. Applicants must receive a score of at least 75 percent to pass the exam and receive their license.
